The Amalfi Coast is among Italy's most desirable destinations — and among the most awkward to reach by public transport. You land at Fiumicino with a hotel in Positano or Amalfi, and you have a choice: train to Salerno, then ferry or bus along a cliff-edge road with all your luggage, or a single door-to-door private transfer that takes you straight to your hotel.
The NCC transfer from Fiumicino to the Amalfi Coast is the practical answer: 320 km, about 4 hours of travel, no connections, driver authorised for the SS163.
Prices by destination

Comparison with alternatives
| Transport | Total duration | Estimated cost (2 pax) | Changes | Comfort | |---|---|---|---|---| | Private NCC transfer | ~4h door to door | €320 fixed | None | Excellent | | Train + Ferry | 5h30–7h | €80–160 total | 3 changes | Uncomfortable with luggage | | Train + SITA Bus | 5h–6h | €60–100 total | 3 changes | Crowded buses |
Note on the SS163 in summer: the Amalfi Coast Road is a single carriageway with sharp hairpin bends. In July and August, tourist traffic can extend the coastal section to 2 hours. Your driver chooses the most favourable departure time to minimise time on the coast road.
The ferry from Salerno is seasonal and weather-dependent. The Salerno–Amalfi–Positano ferry operates April to October but is suspended in rough seas. A weather-dependent solution is not ideal after a long-haul flight.
Flight monitoring included. If your flight lands late, the driver already knows when you've landed and when you'll exit the arrivals hall — no need to call him.
True door to door. Your luggage never touches the ground until you arrive at your hotel in Positano or Amalfi.
Phase 1 — A1 motorway (Rome → Naples): the fastest section, approximately 220 km on the A1/A3 motorway to Naples.
Phase 2 — Naples ring road (A56): ~20 km urban section connecting the A1 to the Sorrento peninsula. Congested during rush hours (8:00–10:00 and 17:00–20:00).
Phase 3 — SS163 (Vietri sul Mare → destination): the famous Amalfi Coast Road, 40 km of hairpin bends overlooking the sea. Spectacular but narrow.
Main stops on the SS163
| Village | km from Vietri | Highlights | |---|---|---| | Vietri sul Mare | 0 | Handmade ceramics, coast entrance | | Amalfi | 15 km | Cathedral, harbour, main town | | Praiano | 23 km | Less touristy, exceptional views | | Positano | 30 km | Cliffside village, most photographed | | Ravello | 15+7 km inland | Villa Cimbrone, Villa Rufolo |
Amalfi: the main town of the coast, with the Cathedral of Sant'Andrea, the medieval Arsenal and the harbour for ferries to Capri.
Ravello: 7 km inland on a ridge 350 m above sea level. Famous for Villa Cimbrone and its terrace described as "the closest point to the sky on earth."
Praiano: the choice for travellers seeking the Amalfi Coast without Positano's crowds — same views, more accessible prices.
Provide the exact hotel address. On the coast road, two addresses 200 metres apart as the crow flies may require completely different vehicle approaches.
Recommended timing: landing early in the morning (06:00–08:00) means arriving on the coast around 11:00–12:00, before afternoon traffic. Afternoon flights (13:00–15:00) put you on the SS163 during the busiest hours in August.
Return to Fiumicino: the service also operates in reverse. Book your return at the same time as the outbound for guaranteed availability.
