Book Rome–Florence Transfer

The service is door-to-door: pickup at your address in Rome (hotel, home, Fiumicino Airport, Termini station) and drop-off at your exact address in Florence — hotel, Vespucci Airport, Santa Maria Novella station, or any other destination. No platforms to navigate, no taxi at the other end.

The standard route:

  • Pickup in Rome (agreed address)
  • Rome ring road → Roma Nord toll → A1 motorway heading north
  • Through Lazio and Tuscany (~280 km of modern motorway)
  • Florence South or Florence North toll exit → final destination in Florence

Under normal conditions it's one of Italy's most straightforward long-distance transfers: the A1 is a three-lane motorway, well signposted, with frequent service areas.

| Factor | Frecciarossa / Italo | Private Driver NCC | |---|---|---| | Transport duration | 1h 25 – 1h 38 min | 2h 30 – 3h | | Pickup | Termini station | Your address (hotel, airport, port) | | Drop-off | Florence S.M. Novella | Your address in Florence | | Additional transfers | 2 (taxi/metro each way) | 0 | | Real door-to-door time | ~3h – 3h 30 min | 2h 30 – 3h (direct) | | Price (1 person) | €20–120 (variable) | from €320 per vehicle | | Price (4 people) | €80–480 (×4 tickets) | €320 fixed (same vehicle) | | Luggage | Carry-on onto carriages | In boot, driver assists | | Stops in Tuscany | No | On request (Orvieto, Siena, Val d'Orcia) | | Schedule change | Penalty or new ticket | Flexible (with notice) |

The calculation that changes the equation: with 4 passengers, the per-person NCC cost drops to €80. Adding taxis to/from the stations (€15–20 each), the real cost of the train for 4 people becomes easily comparable — with the added benefit of door-to-door service and no luggage handling across platforms and stairs.

Private car clearly wins when:

  • You're travelling in a group (3+ people)
  • You're departing from or arriving at an airport or port (Fiumicino, Civitavecchia)
  • You have bulky luggage or are travelling with children
  • You want a Tuscany stop included in the itinerary
  • You prefer schedule flexibility without penalties

The train remains preferable when:

  • You're travelling alone and speed is the only priority
  • You find flash last-minute offers at €20–30
  • Both ends of your journey are near central stations

Orvieto

About 90 km from Rome and just 15 minutes off the A1 (Orvieto exit). The medieval city perched on its tufa rock offers the stunning Gothic Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta — one of Italy's finest, with its golden mosaic façade — and the Renaissance St Patrick's Well (Pozzo di San Patrizio). A 45–60 minute stop is enough for a quick visit to the centre.

Orvieto is the most practical stop: halfway between Rome and Florence, barely off the motorway, and impressive even on a short visit.

Val d'Orcia and Pienza

UNESCO World Heritage Site. About 40 minutes off the A1 near the Chiusi–Chianciano exit. Classic Tuscan landscape — cypress-lined roads, ochre hills, stone hilltop villages. Pienza is small enough to walk in 30–40 minutes. Requires an earlier departure if you want to combine it with Florence.

Siena

About 45 minutes off the A1. Siena deserves at least 2 hours: Piazza del Campo, the Palazzo Pubblico, the Cathedral. For a proper visit, consider departing Rome at 8:00, arriving Siena by 11:00, visiting until 13:00–14:00, and then continuing to Florence in the afternoon (another 70 km, ~1 hour).

How to include stops

Mention your preferred stops when booking. The driver plans the route accordingly. Standard stops up to 30 minutes are included in the price. For longer visits (1–2 hours in Siena or Val d'Orcia), a supplement is agreed at the quoting stage.

For a full itinerary focused on Tuscany from Civitavecchia cruise port, see the Civitavecchia to Florence shore excursion guide.

Prices are per vehicle, not per person. For 4 passengers, the sedan Rome→Florence costs €80 per head.

Night surcharge: +30% for services with pickup between 22:00 and 06:00.

Stops along the route: included at no extra cost up to 30 minutes per stop. For longer detours (Val d'Orcia, Siena), agree at booking — a supplement may apply.

Not included:

  • Entrance tickets to museums and attractions during stops
  • Stops exceeding 30 minutes (agreed and priced upfront)
  • Accommodation (for multi-day services with an overnight stop)

Provide: date and pickup time, departure address, Florence destination, number of passengers, any desired stops, and — if departing from an airport or port — flight number or ship name.

You'll receive written confirmation with the all-inclusive fixed price within 1 hour. Book at least 48 hours ahead, 4–7 days in high season (April–October).
