The distance is approximately 80 km and the route runs mainly on the A12 motorway (Civitavecchia–Rome) and the ring road towards Fiumicino. Under normal traffic conditions, the journey takes 55–70 minutes. With traffic during peak periods — mornings between 07:00 and 09:30, or in the event of incidents on the A12 — times can reach 80–90 minutes.
Those with a flight in the hours following the ship's docking must calculate this buffer carefully: there is no catching up if you miss your plane.
Train (cheapest option, but slower)
There is no direct rail connection between Civitavecchia and Fiumicino Airport. The train journey requires:
- Regional train Civitavecchia → Roma Termini (approximately 70 minutes, departures every 30–60 min)
- Leonardo Express or FL1 Termini → Fiumicino Airport (32 minutes, departures every 15–30 min)
Total door-to-door time: 2–2.5 hours, not counting the time to reach Civitavecchia station from the port (20 minutes on foot or by local taxi), changing at Termini with luggage and the distance between the FL1 arrival point and the departure terminal at Fiumicino.
Taxi
Taxis available at Civitavecchia Port have no fixed fares to Fiumicino. The estimated cost is €120–180 depending on the meter, time and traffic — with no guarantee on the final price. On busy cruise days, available taxis at the port run out quickly.
Shuttle bus
Some companies offer shared Civitavecchia–Fiumicino shuttles. Times depend on the number of stops and how full the bus is. This is not a suitable option for those with a precise flight boarding time.
The concrete risks of DIY planning:
- Delayed train: Regional services on the Civitavecchia–Rome line accumulate frequent delays, especially in winter. A 15-minute delay can mean missing the connection at Termini.
- No taxis available: on days with heavy port calls, 3–4 ships dock simultaneously. Local taxis are not enough for all the passengers looking for a car.
- Unpredictable disembarkation time: disembarking from a cruise ship takes 30–90 minutes depending on queues and the number of decks. Those who have booked a taxi for a fixed time risk arriving too late.
- Traffic on the A12: this motorway stretch is subject to hold-ups at weekends, particularly during cruise season (April–October).
The service includes:
- Real-time ship arrival monitoring: provide the name and number of the ship at the time of booking. The driver follows the updated docking schedule and departs with the right margin. If the ship is delayed, the schedule adjusts accordingly.
- Port welcome: the driver meets you directly at the terminal exit with a name board. No need to search for the vehicle or make calls.
- Vehicle: luxury sedan saloon for groups of up to 4. For groups of up to 7, we use the luxury van at the same fixed price.
- Safety margin calculation: we recommend booking so as to arrive at Fiumicino at least 2 hours before check-in closes. On request, we plan the optimal departure time together based on your flight schedule.
- Contact via WhatsApp or online form with: date, estimated disembarkation time (or ship name), number of passengers, flight time and number departing from Fiumicino
- Confirmation and fixed price in reply within a few hours
- Payment on completion of the transfer (cash or card)
You do not need to know the precise disembarkation time at the time of booking: we update the driver's schedule based on the actual ship situation on the day. Our goal is to get you to the airport with the margin you need — without rushing and without stress.
The fixed-price NCC transfer is the choice that eliminates every variable: a dedicated driver, ship monitoring, an agreed price, no surprises. My Rome Driver offers this service at a fixed €160 per vehicle, available year-round.
